KOSPI gains more than 4% as Asia returns to technology shares

South Korea's KOSPI was up more than 4% in early trading in a Reuters snapshot published at 02:46 CET. The Nikkei gained 1.9%, the yen stood near 157.73 per dollar and Brent eased slightly, while crypto continued trading around the clock.

The clearest confirmed signal from overnight Asia was a gain of more than 4% in the technology-heavy KOSPI during early trading. Reuters published the snapshot on 27 October 2026 at 02:46 CET. At the same time, the Nikkei was up 1.9% and the MSCI Asia-Pacific index excluding Japan gained 1.2%. These are intraday readings, not closing levels.

Reuters described stronger risk appetite after Anthropic filed IPO documents and Meta announced plans to raise up to $95 billion in equity. This is relevant context, but it does not prove that every index move came from a single event. The previous day, the Nasdaq closed 0.83% higher and the S&P 500 gained 0.70%.

China's data also showed an uneven economy. Industrial profits rose 14.4% year on year in September, up from 4.2% in August, but sector performance diverged sharply: profits in computer, communications and electronics manufacturing more than doubled over nine months, while furniture manufacturing profits fell by more than half.

In currencies, the yen was 0.16% weaker at 157.73 per dollar in a Reuters report published at 03:12 CET. The dollar index stood at 102.04 and the euro at $1.1165. Official calendars confirm Fed meetings on 27–28 October, the ECB on 28–29 October and the Bank of Japan on 29–30 October; the decisions and market reactions remain unknown.

In commodities, Brent futures were down 0.57% at $115.15 a barrel at 01:00 CET and WTI was 0.43% lower at $101.32. Gold was later near $4,013.70 an ounce in the Reuters snapshot. These values describe specific moments and can change during the day.

Crypto continued trading around the clock: at 05:18 CET, Google Finance showed bitcoin near $79,706, 0.29% below its previous reference, and ether near $2,310.77, 0.15% lower. This is a snapshot, not a forecast or a recommendation to buy or sell.

Why is KOSPI so sensitive to technology?

KOSPI has substantial exposure to semiconductor and electronics producers. When investors reassess demand for AI infrastructure, large technology companies can move the index more than in less concentrated markets.

The mechanism helps explain index sensitivity, but it does not predict the next move. The gain of more than 4% was an early reading and the later session may look different.

What does China's profit report add?

Growth in aggregate profits can support the assessment of industrial activity, but the distribution matters. Strong electronics and weak furniture manufacturing show that one headline number does not describe the whole economy.

Market analysis should separate the total from sector conditions. Industries can respond differently to domestic demand, exports, financing costs and the technology cycle.

What could change valuations today?

Central-bank meeting dates and scheduled earnings are facts. Whether policymakers' comments or company reports alter expectations for rates, AI demand or margins remains a scenario.

If bond yields rise, growth-share valuations may come under pressure; if yields fall, the mechanism may work in the opposite direction. This is a conditional relationship, not a directional forecast.

How should a morning snapshot be read?

Always compare the timestamp, reference point and market type. Asian indexes were trading intraday, oil futures were live and crypto operated around the clock.
