Sunday markets: TASI gains 83.23 points while Hormuz remains a conditional scenario
Saudi Press Agency reported TASI's 18 October close at 10,189.77, up 83.23 points. A new official Iranian statement concerns a conditional Hormuz proposal, not an agreement. Wall Street has no regular Sunday session while crypto remains active.
Sunday, 18 October 2026 was not a day off for every stock exchange. Saudi Press Agency confirmed a positive close for Saudi Arabia's main TASI index. This is a completed Sunday-session result, not a live quote at the 20:00 publication time. The index gained 83.23 points from the previous session to 10,189.77.
Iran's foreign ministry published remarks by minister Abbas Araghchi that day, maintaining a conditional proposal concerning Hormuz. This is one negotiating side's position, not confirmation of an agreement or resumed shipping. The page labels its publication time as 17:00 without specifying a timezone.
This is a new evening topic after the morning IMF risk map and the afternoon AVAX scan. We do not recycle an older forecast or an afternoon crypto snapshot as fresh evening data.
Why can an index rise while risk remains?
Reuters linked support for Saudi stocks to higher oil prices while reporting declines in Qatar and Egypt. That is market-report context, not proof that every company benefits from the same headline. One rising index does not establish a shared view across all investors.
Our educational context: an energy exporter and a fuel-consuming company may experience a higher commodity price differently. Revenue may improve for one while transport or production costs rise for the other. Hedging and other factors also matter, so the headline alone cannot determine a forecast.
A proposal, an agreement and actual flows are different
Iran's remarks describe conditions for a possible action. They should not become a headline saying the strait has reopened. This article does not confirm US acceptance or an actual change in ship traffic.
An educational scenario, not an observed reaction: credible improvement in shipping access could ease supply concerns, while continued disruption could sustain them. Energy prices and company costs are possible channels into inflation expectations, currencies and equities. The direction and size of future market moves remain unknown.
Wall Street, crypto and a practice exercise
Nasdaq runs regular stock sessions Monday through Friday. There is no new regular Wall Street close on Sunday; Friday's levels are not today's trades. Crypto remains active over the weekend, but we do not assign a move to this statement without evidence or publish an unverified evening quote.
