Weekend markets: Brent at $116.72, crypto active and the Fed ahead
Brent ended Friday at $116.72 a barrel, up 3.14%, while Bitcoin was near $80,917 at 05:18 CEST on Saturday. We explain which markets are closed, what continues trading and why these figures are not one simultaneous snapshot.
On Saturday, 24 October 2026, regular equity sessions in Asia, Europe and the United States are closed. The latest index and commodity levels are Friday data, not live Saturday prices. Crypto continues trading around the clock.
Reuters reported Brent settling Friday at $116.72 a barrel, up $3.55 or 3.14%. In a separate 05:18 CEST snapshot, Bitcoin was near $80,917, about 0.96% below the source's previous reference point.
These are different markets observed at different times. They are not combined into a chart that implies simultaneous pricing. Ahead of the next full session, attention may turn to the FOMC meeting scheduled for 27–28 October, but the date alone determines neither the decision nor market direction.
1. What is open and what is closed?
Saturday brings no new regular cash-equity session in Tokyo, Seoul, Europe or Wall Street. Friday's closes remain the latest comparable reference points. Derivatives and platforms may follow their own hours, so the rules of one market should not be applied to every instrument.
Bitcoin and other crypto assets remain active through the weekend. A live crypto price is not a Saturday update for an equity index, oil contract or closed currency market.
2. Friday's Asia and Wall Street
Reuters reported the KOSPI finishing Friday higher after falling as much as 4% earlier. US benchmarks closed lower: the Dow fell 1.23%, the S&P 500 0.52% and the Nasdaq Composite 0.21%.
These are completed-session results. Reuters described concern about the cost of AI investment, but that does not establish one cause for every instrument's move.
3. Oil and currencies: the latest available levels
Brent settled Friday at $116.72 and WTI at $103.27 a barrel. Reuters linked the rise to supply-disruption concerns after attacks in Saudi Arabia. That is verified news context, not a guarantee of the next move after reopening.
The euro was last at $1.1191, down 0.21% in Reuters' Friday report. It should not be presented as a fresh regular-market weekend quote.
4. Crypto: an active market with a separate reference point
At 05:18 CEST, Bitcoin was near $80,917. The same snapshot showed a daily range from roughly $80,468 to $81,923. This is a changing crypto quote, not a guaranteed execution price for a later order.
Bitcoin can respond to its own liquidity, flows and news. Without independent evidence, its move should not be attributed to oil, Wall Street's close or a single geopolitical headline.
5. Before Monday and the Fed meeting
The Federal Reserve's official calendar confirms an FOMC meeting on 27–28 October. Reuters also points to upcoming results from Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon. These are events to monitor, not certain predictions for equities, the dollar or crypto.
